The Tallahassee Writers Association has partnered with Holy Comforter Episcopal School for many years for the culminating event of Susan Koehler's summer writing camp. The four-day camp for young authors (rising fourth through eighth grades) concludes with the Young Authors Conference (YAC), where the students read their work to local authors (members of TWA). This is a wonderful experience for the young authors, who get feedback and encouragement from published (and some not published) authors. It is also a truly rewarding and inspiring experience for the members of TWA who participate.

This year's summer writing camp Young Authors Conference will be held on June 7, 2018. Authors who would like to participate in this meaningful student outreach should email Susan at susankoehler@hotmail.com, and she will put you on the list. Participating authors should arrive at Holy Comforter Episcopal School, 2001 Fleischmann Rd., by 9:30 am.

The YAC schedule will be as follows:

9:30-9:40 – Authors arrive

9:40-10:00 – Authors tell students about themselves and their work

10:00-11:00 – Divide into groups; students share writing with authors and receive feedback

11:00-11:15 – Culminating group discussion where authors face kids and each author offers specific praise/encouragement

11:15-11:30 – Reception and refreshments

Susan Koehler is the author of The Complete K-5 Writing Workshop and Crafting Expository Papers. She is the co-author of Models for Teaching Writing-Craft Target Skills. Find more info at maupinhouse.com.
